Singer-songwriter Janet Jackson’s team recently issued a statement clarifying that an earlier statement made by Mo Elmasri, alleging to be her manager, was unauthorized. The statement denied that Jackson had issued any apology to Kamala Harris, contradicting Elmasri’s statement.
All of the fiasco happened after Janet Jackson gave an interview to The Guardian, published on September 21, 2024, where she stated that Harris is “not black.” She mentioned:
“She’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian. Her father’s White. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days.”
After the interview, Elmasri shared a statement falsely claiming that the singer had issued an apology to Harris. However, her representative denied this, emphasizing that Elmasri is not connected to Janet “in any capacity.” According to People Magazine, Randy Jackson, Janet’s brother, is her actual manager.
However, as soon as the news reached the realms of social media, many began reacting to the news. An X account, @PopCrave, shared the news on X, and a netizen commented:
I’m crying not a stan tried to cover her tracks.”
Several other netizens expressed their opinions on the matter.
“Why didn’t she just keep her mouth shut…” said one social media user.
“Her reps clearly want bad PR,” wrote another X user.
Moreover, many X users slammed Jackson for her remarks.
“Oh she’s cooked. I would’ve taken the free apology instead of making myself continue to seem ignorant and racist,” added another user on the post.
“Girl some random fan was probably trying to help you,” exclaimed another.
Janet Jackson’s statement explored as she claimed that she was unsure if the nation is “ready for a woman of color” to be the President
As the 2024 US presidential election approaches, many celebrities, social media users, and even politicians are endorsing their favorite candidates and urging the people to vote for them.
While many celebrities like Taylor Swift are siding with Kamala Harris, Janet Jackson thinks otherwise, as she slammed the current Vice President and said in the Guardian interview:
“I’m unsure if America is ready for a woman of color to be president. I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t want to answer that because I really, truthfully, don’t know. I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.”
For the unversed, Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States of America, is a candidate in the upcoming US presidential elections, which are to be held on November 5, 2024.
After Joe Biden withdrew his candidacy from the elections, he endorsed Harris, and since then, many have raised questions about Harris’ race. It is worth noting that, as per Page Six, Harris’ father was born in Jamaica, while her mother in India.
On the other hand, Janet Jackson is currently on her Together Again tour, which started on April 14, 2023, and is likely to conclude on October 13, 2024, in Glasgow, Scotland. During this time, the Come Back To Me singer performed in many states of the country, including Orlando, Atlanta, New York, etc.
Furthermore, Janet Jackson also performed in Canada, the Philippines, Japan, and England and is currently hosting many concerts in various European countries.
