The warm-up event for the US Open will become one of the highest-profile women's tennis events in North America.

New York announced plans to host a new ATP and WTA combined tournament beginning in 2027, featuring equal prize money for men and women in what organizers describe as a landmark event for gender equality in tennis.

The tournament, to be held at a new tennis facility in Queens, will serve as a premier warm-up event for the US Open. Prize money will total $5 million, placing it among the most lucrative non-Grand Slam events in tennis.

"Equal prize money is the standard we should all aspire to, and this tournament demonstrates that commitment from the outset," said Women's Tennis Association CEO Kelly Bush. "We are grateful to New York for creating this opportunity."

The event will alternate between a women's-only format one year and a combined format the next, with the combined years designed to maximize attendance and broadcast interest. The schedule ensures that top players from both tours will compete in New York before the US Open.

Construction on the new Queens facility will begin this summer, with the complex including 20 courts, a 10,000-seat stadium, and state-of-the-art training facilities. The project is funded through a combination of private investment and city subsidies.

The tournament represents a significant expansion of professional tennis in the New York area and fills a gap in the pre-US Open schedule that has existed since the former New Haven Open ended.
