Jennifer Lopez made headlines when she referred to her child Emme with “they/them” pronouns during her Los Angeles performance.
Lopez, who was performing at the Dodgers Foundation’s Blue Diamond Gala when she announced that one of her twins, Emme, would be coming out to sing with her.
“I ask them to sing with me all the time but they won’t, so this is a very special occasion, because they’re very, very busy and booked and pricey,” Lopez humorously shared.
“They cost me when they come out,” she added.
Continuing with the gender-neutral pronouns, Lopez said: “They’re worth every single penny because they’re my favorite duet partner of all time. So if you would indulge me.”
Lopez and Emme then treated fans to a mesmerizing duet of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years. Emme, sporting a hot pink shirt and shorts paired with a black hat and shoes, stole the show alongside their mom, who rocked a turquoise ensemble and a feathered robe.
The Let’s Get Loud singer shares Emme and son Maximilian with her ex-husband Marc Anthony. The teenage twins celebrated their birthday in February, prompting Lopez to express her gratitude for their presence in her life.
“You have taught me the true meaning of life and have changed me forever in the most amazing way,” Lopez gushed on Instagram. “I only hope I can be half of the blessing you have been to my life.”
Since finalizing their divorce in 2014, Lopez and Anthony have been successfully co-parenting Emme and Maximilian. Lopez’s husband, Ben Affleck, has also taken on a fatherly role with her twins.
In fact, last Father’s Day, Lopez took to Instagram to celebrate Affleck and her dad, David Lopez, in heartfelt tributes, noticeably leaving Anthony out of the holiday dedications.
“Happy Father’s Day to the most caring, loving, affectionate, consistent and selfless Daddy ever,” Lopez wrote, emphasizing her appreciation for Affleck’s role in their family.
