Stephen A. Smith Names 1 Thing That Patrick Mahomes Cannot Do

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - DECEMBER 25: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs warms up prior to a game against the Las Vegas Raiders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on December 25, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Kansas City Chiefs are still the Kansas City Chiefs.

They are 3-0 and still one of the best teams in the league.

However, the case can be made that they might be a little bit less formidable this season, especially after what has happened the first few weeks.

In each of their first three wins, the game has come down to either the final play or the final minute of the game.

To make matters worse, All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce has just eight receptions for a total of 69 receiving yards in three games.

ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith believes the team needs Kelce if they want to win another championship.

“There’s one thing Patrick Mahomes cannot do. He can’t throw the football and catch it himself…There’s one person that he can rely upon…and that man is Travis Kelce,” Smith recently said on First Take.

These numbers from Kelce through three weeks are usually what he puts up in one game if not more.

Before last season, he put up seven consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, which is an NFL record among tight ends.

The nine-time Pro-Bowler is arguably the best tight in NFL history and is going to have to be relied upon more if the Chiefs want to accomplish the impossible and win their third consecutive Super Bowl.

Without Kelce playing like Kelce, Mahomes and the Chiefs might not be as formidable of a force.

Time will tell to see if head coach Andy Reid can get the ball to his star tight end a little more often as the season goes along.
