ESPN Star Didn't Hesitate Leaving Patrick Mahomes Off Top-5 NFL QB List

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs hold an undefeated 3-0 record entering Week 4, but it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows.

Through three games, the reigning Super Bowl MVP has accumulated only 659 passing yards, five touchdowns, four interceptions and a passer rating of 89.9. Pacing for 3,734 yards, Mahomes is on pace for his first sub-4,000-yard season as a full-time starter.

Popular ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL journeyman quarterback, made waves on Thursday while ranking his top five quarterbacks “right now” during a segment on “First Take.”

The 41-year-old rising media star didn’t hesitate to leave Mahomes off the list, instead giving the top spot to Buffalo’s Josh Allen, followed by Aaron Rodgers, Sam Darnold, Kyler Murray and Geno Smith.

After fans questioned the move, Orlovsky followed up with a pointed explanation on social media.

“We don’t need to talk about Patrick Mahomes being the best player in NFL. He is. He has been. He will be forever the foreseeable future. Thought I’ve made that clear over the past few years,” Orlovsky wrote on X.

The Chiefs travel to Southern California this week to face off with the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Sunday.

Kansas City is 5-1 in their last six divisional meetings against the Bolts dating back to 2021, but three of the wins have been decided by three points or fewer.
