David Zaslav, the head of Warner Bros. Discovery, is reportedly keen on shaking things up at DC Studios. As they try to establish a universe to compete with Marvel, the challenge is real, especially with some projects slowed down by last year’s industry strikes. While we’ve got ‘Creature Commandos’ and a new ‘Superman’ movie on the horizon, DC is yet to catch up with Marvel’s success.
The Batman remains a critical character for DC. Despite ‘The Penguin’ pulling in strong viewer numbers without him, fans are eager for more of Gotham’s hero. With ‘The Batman – Part II’ not set to release until 2026, attention has turned to another potential project, ‘The Brave and the Bold.’
Jeff Sneider, a Hollywood insider, hints that Zaslav wants Batman back on our screens sooner rather than later. It’s being talked about that Robert Pattinson, who will star in the upcoming ‘The Batman’ sequel, might continue wearing the cowl in the DCU after the movie. This idea isn’t set in stone but aligns with DC’s broader goals.
There’s talk of integrating ‘The Penguin’ and a planned Arkham Asylum TV show into the DCU, despite the initial plan to keep them separate from ‘The Batman.’ There’s nothing stopping ‘The Batman’ from retroactively becoming part of the DCU, although Pattinson’s commitment to a decade of crossovers remains uncertain. Interestingly, in this new vision, Batman doesn’t necessarily need to be in the Justice League, which we’ve seen before.
In related news, Andy Muschietti was named director of ‘The Brave and the Bold’ just as his ‘The Flash’ faced mixed reviews and box office disappointment. Comparing his appointment to SJ Clarkson directing ‘Spider-Man 4’ or Nia DaCosta taking on ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ after their respective challenges seems a bit risky.
Pattinson has become a fan favorite as Batman, setting high expectations for anyone who follows. It will be interesting to see how DC navigates these waters in the months ahead.
