DC Studios has a variety of projects in the pipeline as James Gunn works to create a new cinematic universe from the ground up, known as the DCU. This new era officially begins with the release of Creature Commandos, but its true impact will be felt with the debut of Superman in 2025.

Meanwhile, Matt Reeves is expanding his Batman Epic Crime Saga. Reeves’ universe is off to a strong start, particularly with The Penguin, which has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and audiences.

It seems that Gunn and Reeves are set to collaborate on a new animated film centered on Robin’s origin story. DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation have officially greenlit an exciting project titled Dynamic Duo.

This will mark the first collaboration between DC Studios and WBPA, led by Bill Damaschke. The film is written by Matthew Aldrich and produced by a new animation studio called Swaybox, based in New Orleans, founded by husband-and-wife duo Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson.

Mintz will direct the film, which explores the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, known collectively as the Robins.

While the movie will be produced by Reeves and Gunn, it is not expected to connect with their existing DC universes.

Swaybox will utilize a technology called “Momo animation,” blending CGI animation with practical stop-motion elements and live-action real-time performance, including puppetry. This innovative technique aims to deliver visually stunning, dynamically expressive, and more human long-form storytelling. Reeves has expressed nothing but enthusiasm for the project:

I have wanted to make a film with Arthur and Swaybox for many years, and for that film to be Dynamic Duo, an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families, is a dream.

Currently, the movie’s release date and plot details have not been revealed. If you have any thoughts to share, let us know in the comments below!
