Ryan Reynolds, who is now synonymous with Deadpool, once portrayed Hal Jordan in ‘Green Lantern,’ a film that promised much but delivered less. Despite the initial excitement surrounding the movie, it quickly became infamous for its shortcomings. The film struggled with a shallow storyline that didn’t properly showcase Hal Jordan’s heroics. Its attempt to blend Jordan’s development with the expansive universe of the Green Lantern Corps and the antagonist Parallax resulted in a cluttered and uninspiring narrative.
The movie’s heavy reliance on CGI didn’t age well either. Particularly, Reynolds’ all-CGI suit was often seen as cartoonish, turning into a recurring joke among fans—a joke Reynolds himself enjoys referencing.
In a playful twist, Reynolds recently shared his own version of the movie on social media, dubbed “The Reynolds Cut.” This version takes a light-hearted jab at the movie’s flaws while paying homage to the ‘Snyder Cut’ of ‘Justice League,’ which was well-received by audiences for its improvements.
‘The Reynolds Cut’ cleverly begins with a scene from ‘Deadpool 2’ where Deadpool prevents Reynolds from ever taking the Green Lantern role. It then swiftly moves through the core moments of the film: Green Lantern’s father dies, he becomes a pilot, receives the ring, and ultimately conquers Parallax.
Adding to the fun, Tom Cruise appears as Green Lantern in a surprising cameo towards the end of the cut. The reimagined version concludes with a post-credits scene that features Green Lantern meeting the Justice League before soaring off.
Reynolds’ revision not only lightens the tone of the original film but also manages to deliver a more enjoyable experience, showing us how a touch of humor can transform even the most criticized films into something memorable.
