Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was released over a year ago and brought several significant developments to the MCU. While other projects have struggled, this third installment succeeded with both critics and at the box office.
In terms of major changes, the film saw the team effectively disband, with each core member going their separate ways. Star-Lord returned to Earth to reconnect with his human side, while Gamora joined the Ravagers. Mantis chose to follow her own desires, and Nebula and Drax stayed on Knowhere to care for the children rescued from the High Evolutionary’s ship.
As one of the most beloved teams in the MCU, fans are eager to know what’s next for the Guardians of the Galaxy. The third installment hinted that Star-Lord will eventually return, but there was no mention of the other team members—aside from the post-credit scene, which introduces a new lineup featuring Adam Warlock, Phyla, Blurp, Cosmo, and Kraglin, all under Rocket Raccoon’s leadership.
However, even if the team makes a comeback in the MCU, it will be with a significantly different roster, as both Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana have confirmed they will not be returning.
In a recent AMA, industry insider Alex Perez delivered disappointing news for Guardians fans, stating that the team is unlikely to appear in the MCU for quite some time. When asked about their current activities, Alex noted that they are “guarding the galaxy,” but hinted that fans might have to wait a while before seeing them again.
Fans have raised concerns about Star-Lord’s return, questioning the significance of the closing text in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Perez indicated that there were plans for Star-Lord to form the Annihilators, but he is unsure of the current direction.
The Annihilators are a superhero team in Marvel Comics composed primarily of cosmic heroes. They were established in the aftermath of the Annihilation storyline, which featured a major conflict involving cosmic entities and threats within the Marvel Universe.
Some of the most notable members of the Annihilators include Nova (who is set to be introduced in the MCU), Quasar, Beta Ray Bill, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Gladiator, and Silver Surfer (who is also expected to join the MCU soon).
