Halle Berry, renowned for her portrayal of Storm in the X-Men series, recently shed light on some questionable practices by 20th Century Fox during the production of ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’. The film, which didn’t quite hit the mark back in 2006, involved some behind-the-scenes tactics that Berry was not privy to at the time.
Earlier this year, Matthew Vaughn, who was initially set to direct the movie, shared a startling incident. At a convention, he revealed that Fox had concocted a fake script to lure Berry into reprising her role.
Vaughn discovered the ruse when he noticed an unusually thick script in an executive’s office. Curious about the content, he learned it included a scene where Storm rescues drought-stricken children in Africa. This was part of what he termed ‘the Halle Berry script’, designed solely to secure her agreement to join the film.
The studio had no real intention of using it and planned to discard it once she signed on. Shocked by the dishonesty, especially towards an Oscar-winning actress, Vaughn decided to exit the project.
This revelation resurfaced on social media, prompting Berry herself to comment. On Instagram, she expressed her gratitude to Vaughn for exposing the deceitful strategies used behind her back, highlighting the shadowy aspects of Hollywood dealings.
Despite these past manipulations, there’s still speculation about Berry’s potential return as Storm in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. When questioned last month about the possibility, Berry responded playfully, indicating that anything could happen.
Brett Ratner eventually took over the direction of ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’, and Vaughn returned to the X-Men universe to direct ‘X-Men: First Class’ in 2011. However, his plans to direct the sequel were thwarted when the studio shifted him aside for Bryan Singer, prompting Vaughn to create the Kingsman series instead.
Berry’s candid Instagram post offers fans a deeper insight into the complexities of film production and the unexpected challenges actors may face.
