Halle Berry is one of the biggest movie stars of all time. That is a fact. Sure, she’s played Catwoman in that abomination of a movie, but her career includes major credits such as Monster’s Ball (2001), the role of Storm in four installments of the X-Men film series (2000–2014), the henchwoman of a robber in the thriller Swordfish (2001), and Bond girl Jinx in Die Another Day (2002).
She also has significant roles in Perfect Stranger (2007), Cloud Atlas (2012), and The Call (2013), as well as Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017) and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019).
Now, the popular actress has done it all in her career, appearing in various different projects and showing the diversity of her talent. Still, despite that, the role of Storm is going to stick with her forever, as the fans simply love her version of the character.
And while the speculations about her reprising the role in the upcoming Avengers movies are very much alive, the actress recently provided us with a comment on an interesting revelation by X-Men director Matthew Vaughn. The director revealed what “shady shit” they had to do to get her back for The Last Stand.
As you know, Halle Berry played Storm in four movies in total – the original X-Men trilogy, as well as the hit film X-Men: Days of Future Past. While her performances are memorable, it was now revealed that she was not really up for appearing in each of these movies, as Fox had to go through a lot to actually get her back for X-Men: The Last Stand, as Matthew Vaughn revealed:
Hollywood is really political and odd. I went into an executive’s office, and I saw a script that was a lot fatter. I was like, ‘What the hell’s this draft?’ They said, ‘Don’t worry about it. (…) That’s a pretty cool idea.
So I was like, what’s this? They said it was the Halle Berry script. ‘She hasn’t signed on yet, but this is what she wants it to be. So once she signs on, we’ll throw it in the bin.’ I said, ‘Wow, you’re going to do that to an Oscar-winning actress? I’m out of here.’ So I quit at that point. I figured I was mincemeat.
As you can see, WB managed to write a fake script that featured a storm saving dehydrated children in Africa during a rainstorm. This is what Halle Berry wanted to do, so they lured her in with a fake story just to get her to sign on, which Vaughn did not like.
And while Berry did appear as Storm in The Last Stand, when she heard what Vaughn said, she provided us with a comment on her Instagram account:
In case you’re unable to open the link for some reason, here is what she said:
Ya just never know the shady shit going on behind ya back! Thank you Matthew Vaughn for bringing the dark to light ?️
This is some pretty nasty stuff, we agree, and with Fox opting to use such tactics, it doesn’t really surprise us that they had to revamp the whole story at one point.
