‘Booster Gold’ is among the many live-action shows slated for the DCU in the coming years as part of ‘Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.’ Although details about the series are limited, James Gunn recently stated that production is not set to begin anytime soon.
As always, fans have expressed their preferences for actors to portray the titular character. Antony Starr and Chris Pratt were considered strong candidates due to their connections to Gunn and their physical resemblance to Booster Gold, but these rumors have now been dismissed.
Recently, NPN reported a rumor that Kumail Nanjiani has been cast as Booster Gold in the DCU. The actor has an impressive resume, and if the rumors are accurate, he was likely chosen for his comedic background.
However, fans have taken to social media to voice their dissatisfaction with this casting choice, primarily because Nanjiani is Pakistani-American, which is a significant departure from Booster Gold’s traditional comic portrayals.
Additionally, Nanjiani’s role in the MCU’s ‘Eternals’ received mixed reviews, with many viewers expressing disappointment in his portrayal of the character and his acting overall. This discontent largely stems from the fact that Nanjiani doesn’t physically resemble Booster Gold.
If you were hoping for a change in casting for Booster Gold, there may be good news. James Gunn appears to have debunked the rumors, though this interpretation hinges on how one reads his comments.
Recently, Gunn shared a post highlighting his achievements since becoming co-CEO of DC Studios. Among the images he reposted was one featuring the notable castings in the DCU, including Nanjiani’s rumored role as Booster Gold.
One fan inquired whether Gunn’s reposting of the photo confirmed that Nanjiani would be playing Booster Gold. Gunn responded with a clear “no.”
Before you start celebrating, it’s important to note that Gunn didn’t explicitly state, “No, Nanjiani is not Booster Gold.” He only clarified that reposting the image does not serve as confirmation.
There remains a significant possibility that Nanjiani was selected for the role, especially considering how often he has been seen on the set of ‘Superman’ and with the DCU team.
However, this also opens up another possibility: Nanjiani could be cast in a different major role. This would explain his frequent presence on set and why Gunn is hesitant to completely dismiss the idea of him playing Booster Gold.
