When the infamous Order 66 was issued by Palpatine, it was meant to destroy the Jedi order once and for all. Despite the deadly command, the Jedi continue to appear across the Star Wars universe, popping up in new shows, movies, and books.
It’s left many wondering how they managed to dodge such a fate. Thanks to the new book ‘The Secrets of the Clone Troopers‘ by Mark Sumerak, we finally have some answers.
According to the book, not all clone troopers obeyed the order to kill their Jedi commanders. Captain Rex is featured in the book explaining that although the clones were meant to follow Order 66 without question, not all did. Some, like the members of Clone Force 99, were less affected by the inhibitor chips due to their unique genetic makeup.
Others were emotionally bonded enough with their Jedi generals that they resisted the command, allowing their Jedi to escape. This emotional connection, a core theme in Star Wars, seems to have played a crucial role. It suggests that Emperor Palpatine may have underestimated the personal relationships formed between some clones and their Jedi counterparts.
This revelation aligns with what we’ve seen in the series ‘The Bad Batch,’ where certain clones deviate from their programming. It adds depth to the story, explaining why some Jedi survived seemingly against all odds, with some clones choosing not to follow the cruel order.
The survival of these Jedi adds an interesting twist to the Star Wars narrative, showing that even in a galaxy far, far away, personal connections can override the most stringent directives. It’s a reminder of the power of individual choice and the unpredictability of emotion, themes that are at the heart of the Star Wars saga.
