Heading into their Week 5 Sunday night matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had high praises for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Pittsburgh is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 27-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, where their defense let them down.

To avoid consecutive losses, Pittsburgh’s defense must be sharp as they prepare to face one of the most determined quarterbacks in the league.

Defeating the Cowboys this weekend will be no small task, as limiting Prescott’s production is vital to the Steelers’ chances of securing a much-needed win. Prescott, who has already racked up 1,072 passing yards this season, is known to make plays and protect the football. With only two turnovers through the first four games, he’s proving to be a difficult opponent for any defense to subdue.

Mike Tomlin speaks highly of QB Dak Prescott

Tomlin, addressing the Pittsburgh media this week, made it clear just how much respect he has for the Cowboys’ signal-caller.

“Man, I just have a lot of respect for Dak Prescott,” Tomlin said. “Funny enough, since he’s been in the league, we’ve only played against him one time in 2016.” That game, a 35-30 loss on November 13th, left a lasting impression on Tomlin, who recalled the qualities that made Prescott such a formidable opponent.

“I see a guy who is ultra-competitive, has unbelievable arm talent, and natural leadership skills,” Tomlin added.

Prescott’s leadership and arm talent will pose significant challenges for Pittsburgh’s defense, which struggled mightily in their previous outing. To avoid a repeat, the Steelers must put Prescott under constant pressure and disrupt the Cowboys’ passing game. T.J. Watt and his teammates will be key to this effort, as applying pressure on Prescott is the best way to limit his effectiveness and force mistakes.

Tomlin understands that a win this weekend is about more than bouncing back from last week’s loss—it’s about gaining momentum for the weeks ahead. With a bye week on the horizon, a victory against the Cowboys would help the Steelers regroup and position themselves better as the season progresses.

For the Steelers, the challenge is clear: limit Dak Prescott’s production, execute on defense, and make a statement on Sunday night. A win would not only be sweet revenge for that 2016 loss but also provide a significant boost of confidence heading into the heart of the season.
