When Zack Snyder’s DCEU collapsed, Marvel alumn James Gunn was brought to Warner to reestablish a DC Comics cinematic universe and, thus, the DCU was created. While the true start of the cinematic aspect of the DCU is expected next year when Superman premieres, the DCU already has numerous projects lined up and we know more about its future than its present.
Among the planned and upcoming projects is the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, which is currently set for a 2026 release, with filming scheduled to begin in early 2025. We don’t know a lot of details about the movie, but we do know that it is going to be inspired by the comic book series of the same name by Tom King.
And, based on some of the rumors we have, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is going to be so good that it will bring us to tears.
We know that Supergirl received her own solo movie back in 1984, which was part of the so-called Donnerverse of Superman films, being a tie-in to the main series with Christopher Reeve.
But, the movie was more or less a failure, and it is today often cited as one of the worst superhero movies ever made, and rightfully so. This is why Gunn has an important task ahead of him, as the new Supergirl movie has to be great. More so because the TV series was quite popular, so the fans expect a lot.
Now, as stated, the movie is still just a plan, but the first rumors have started leaking, and it seems that the movie is going to be great:

This is certainly a major rumor, but, of course, as it always is with rumors, take it with a grain of salt, as the tweet is not corroborated by any proper source, so that “someone” could be anyone or no one.
But, we are hopeful that the rumors are true because it would mean two things: (1) Supergirl will get a proper feature film or her own; (2) Gunn is really putting everything into making the DCU a great franchise. Who will benefit from this? The fans, of course, and that is why it would be great if it did turn out to be true.
