The upcoming slate of Marvel movies, especially the two upcoming Avengers movies, will be thrilling. Why? Well, this is mostly due to the fact that we know that Doctor Doom is going to be the main villain and that he will be played by Robert Downey Jr., who is returning to the MCU, but in a different role.
This has fans excited once again, as the future of the MCU is bright once more, but the in-universe implications will also be interesting to observe. Namely, as the story is getting ready for the shift, the characters are also preparing for the new enemy, as the actors confirm.
Recently, actor Benedict Wong, who plays Wong in the MCU, discussed his character’s future and revealed, now that Wong is the Sorcerer Supreme, that he would like to face off against Downey’s Doctor Doom, which would certainly be an interesting match-up to see, we agree.
The information was conveyed by the actor himself, who is currently promoting his film Bad Genius, which is currently playing in cinemas. While discussing the film, the actor was asked about Wong’s future in the MCU, and he revealed an interesting wish he has, which is definitely something very interesting:
“Hey, well, look, I’m all for it. I’m ready! With Wong, he’s been promoted to Sorcerer Supreme so it’s all in the hands of the Marvel Universe to see where we go with it. Yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”
Wong against Doctor Doom? The new Sorcerer Supreme against one of the most powerful sorcerers in Marvel’s universe? Count us in! We honestly believe that this would be an amazing match-up that would also give Wong some space to show just how skilled he is.
And while we don’t doubt that Strange is the more powerful of the two characters, Wong is definitely a more skilled and learned sorcerer, someone who knows the wider aspects of magic much better than Strange, so his skill and knowledge against Doom’s skills and abilities is a conflict we definitely want to see.
Will we? That much we don’t know, at least not yet. They say that when someone utters an idea or wish publically, it won’t happen on the screen, so maybe Wong jinxed himself by stating this, but in all honestly, this match-up doesn’t seem that unlikely.
Maybe it won’t be a major, epic clash, but it definitely does look like a possible fight that Marvel fans might end up seeing later in the MCU.
We’d like to see it, and we’re sure that a lot of other fans will too, so we hope that it happens eventually.
