In ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ fans will meet one of Marvel Comics’ daunting villains, Knull, but he won’t take center stage as the main antagonist in this final chapter of Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Eddie Brock.

According to Kelly Marcel, the director and co-writer of the film, Knull’s potential is too vast to be unpacked in just one movie. In an email interview with IGN, Marcel emphasized that introducing Knull is only a precursor to more significant developments. “This is just the beginning for Knull,” Marcel stated, hinting at future plots that might explore his character further.

Despite being the third installment and the finale of the current Venom trilogy, ‘The Last Dance’ is designed to set the stage for more stories. Marcel shared that they have carefully prepared the groundwork for Venom and his bond with Eddie before bringing Knull into the picture. “The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done,’” she added, reinforcing the idea that Knull’s story is far from over.

In the movie, the dynamics between Eddie and Venom continue to be pivotal. They are portrayed as fugitives, evading numerous foes while being each other’s sole support.

This setup tests their limits and lays a solid foundation for confronting Knull. Marcel points out that while Knull looms as a background threat, the film primarily focuses on Eddie and Venom’s relationship, the true heart of the narrative.

Marcel also discussed the return of Mulligan from ‘Let There be Carnage,’ teasing that he might not be alone this time, suggesting more symbiote action. IGN further revealed exclusive insights into the casting decisions and character developments in ‘The Last Dance.’

Notably, Rhys Ifans, known for his role as Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ returns in a new, distinct role. Moreover, characters played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Juno Temple are part of a military-science complex with agendas that intertwine with Eddie and Venom’s plight.

Marcel, making her directorial debut with this film after having written and produced the previous Venom movies, found transitioning to directing a challenge, especially given the heavy reliance on special effects.

She praised the special effects teams for bringing her vision to life, particularly in scenes requiring extensive work, like a sequence involving two weeks of underwater filming in a specially constructed rapids tank.

IGN also highlighted that this film might mark the end of Tom Hardy’s journey as Venom, a decision aligned with the narrative arc planned from the start by Marcel and Hardy.

As the film prepares to hit theaters on October 25th and will be showcased at Sony Pictures’ New York Comic Con presentation on October 18th, fans are eager to see how these new and returning elements will weave together in Eddie and Venom’s final ride.
