Spider-Man 4 was confirmed last year, but details about the movie are still limited. We do know that Tom Holland and Zendaya will be reprising their roles, and Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct.

Recently, Ryan Meinerding announced that this upcoming installment marks the beginning of Spider-Man’s second trilogy. He also confirmed that the official title of the previous trilogy was “Home,” which reflects the common theme throughout all three films.

Recently, CBR posted an intriguing theory that seems to make a lot of sense. The theory suggests that we may already know the title of the next installment, based on the comic storyline that No Way Home loosely adapted.

As you might recall, No Way Home features Peter Parker using Doctor Strange’s spell to erase the memories of nearly everyone, including his love interest, MJ. This plot element is loosely inspired by the Spider-Man: One More Day storyline written by J. Michael Straczynski and illustrated by Joe Quesada.

In that storyline, Aunt May is shot and on the brink of death. Peter seeks help from various sources, including superheroes, but no one seems able to save her.

In his desperation, Peter turns to Mephisto for help. The demon offers to assist him but demands that Peter give up something he cherishes. Peter realizes that what he values most is his marriage to Mary Jane Watson.

Mephisto’s deal requires erasing Peter and Mary Jane’s marriage, along with their shared memories. This essentially alters reality so that they never married and never experienced their life together as a couple.

Although Peter initially refuses the deal, he comes to understand that Aunt May’s well-being is more important than his own happiness and his marriage to MJ. Ultimately, both he and MJ accept the deal, with MJ adding her own secret terms.

So, how does this tie into the upcoming Spider-Man 4 title? As CBR noted, One More Day has a follow-up titled Brand New Day. This storyline acts as a reboot of Peter Parker’s life, thrusting him into a new phase where he is single and must deal with the consequences of his choices following the events of One More Day.

It’s evident that Spider-Man 4 will likely take inspiration from this storyline. Peter finds himself in the MCU without anyone by his side, giving him the freedom to choose how he wants to live moving forward. This situation is both heartbreaking and exhilarating, much like in the comics.

The key difference is that in Brand New Day, Peter was unaware of what he had lost, whereas in the MCU, he is fully conscious of it. This makes Brand New Day an ideal title for the fourth film, as it could allow the MCU to shift away from the “Home” theme and explore a new direction.
