It is a known fact, by far, that Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the biggest hits of the year. While the film did not amaze critics, the fans loved it, and the box office numbers the film has managed to achieve speak for themselves. Deadpool & Wolverine is the most lucrative film of the year, behind only Inside Out 2.
And while the movie was the hottest topic on our site a couple of months ago, the focus has in the meantime shifted to other topics, but we’re still happy to go back to Deadpool & Wolverine as we are going to do in this report.
Namely, as it turns out, there was an alternative ending envisioned for the movie which would have featured the return of two old pre-MCU Marvel characters. This was revealed by visual development artist Rodney Fuentebella, who worked on the movie and recently revealed some concept art on his Instagram profile.
This is a recent development ahead of the release of the book The Art of Deadpool & Wolverine, which will feature numerous other concept art, as well as ideas for the film. Fuentebella’s sketches highlight a very different ending, in which Deadpool and Wolverine clash with the Deadpool Corps in the Void, getting some help. Here is the post:
In case you’re unable to see the text for some reason, here is the transcript:
Here is an early concept illustration I did for the @marvelstudios Deadpool and Wolverine film. This was in the beginning stages of the making of the film so a lot changed but I wanted to show the how epic and awesome this film could be at the time.
I had a blast creating all the interactions between our heroes and the Deadpool variants. Thank you to @andyparkart for leading this project on the vis dev side and to all the Marvel Studios peps. Check out @ryan_meinerding_art Wolverine concept if you haven’t already. And enjoy!!!
So, as the images show us, Deadpool and Wolverine had help from Ben Affleck’s Daredevi, as well as Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider, two characters that did not make the final cut of the movie (we’ve written about why Affleck wasn’t in the movie), but also two characters that the fans would have loved to see on the screen.
You can also see the Human Torch (Chris Evans) and Blade (Wesley Snipes), as well as Elektra (Jennifer Garner), but they were featured in the movie so this is nothing new in that aspect.
Finally, this is an exciting tease that shows that the doors aren’t closed for Affleck and Cage to make a return in a future MCU film and we believe that that is exactly what the fans want, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.
