After the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William, the couple held a secret afterparty which featured an unexpected theme, which was revealed in James Middleton’s memoir
While many witnessed Kate Middleton and Prince William’s televised royal wedding, few know the details about their private late-night celebration featuring a very unexpected theme.
Back in 2011, the famous royal couple tied the knot in a beautiful fairytale wedding at Westminster Abbey in London, England. But after the formal ceremony wrapped up, the pair were joined by their closest friends and family for a secret wedding after-party. Princess Kate’s brother, James Middleton, dished on the inside details from the party in his new memoir ‘Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life.’

Following Princess Kate and Prince William’s formal wedding ceremony, the pair hosted a lively tropical Caribbean-themed bash after as they danced the night away with all of their loved ones. In James’ memoir, the British entrepreneur explained that he stumbled upon the venue where the party was held while he was on a walk with his dog Ella at the Goring Hotel.
The Caribbean-themed party was inspired by one of the Middleton’s favorite vacation spots which is a private island in The Grenadines. The Grenadines are islands in the Caribbean nations of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. These islands are known for their yacht-filled harbors, beautiful coral reefs, crystal clear waters, and secluded beaches.
He wrote: ‘”There, a replica of Basil’s Bar in Mustique a small private island in the Grenadines and a holiday spot the family had visited many times has been set up,” and added: “Now a perfect facsimile of it has been built in the grounds of the Goring Hotel so wedding guests can imagine themselves on the edge of the Caribbean while actually in the middle of a London garden.”

And on the grounds of the hotel, James discovered the Basil Bar where the afterparty was held. In his memoir, James joked that he and his dog Ella “managed to visit the bar before any of the other guests.”
In his book, James described the bar as an “unassuming little venue” which has been a hotspot for celebrities in the past. The Basil Bar has previously performances from multiple music legends including Jon Bon Jovi and Mick Jagger. And the owner of the famous bar, who is actually named Basil, joined the royal celebration after being invited as one of the wedding guests by the Middletons.
While James didn’t reveal any other details about the afterparty, Princess Kate was likely to have underwent a third outfit change for the island-themed party. Before the secret bash, Princess Kate wore a gorgeous white custom Alexander McQueen gown to the official royal wedding. The Princess of Wales paired the Victorian-inspired gown with a Cartier Halo Tiara that was lent to her by Queen Elizabeth II.
After the ceremony was over, Kate slipped into a more comfortable, but just as breathtaking dress as she wore a second white lace Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen satin ballgown for a private evening reception.
