Ranker is a popular place on the Internet where people can rank whatever they want, however, they want, and whenever they want. This is always a fan-focused ranking system, and it is never officially tied to the people behind the projects in question.
Recently, a large survey was organized on Ranker, whose goal was to determine the most powerful mutants from Marvel’s fictional universe.
The list includes a bunch of characters, but in our report, we have decided to list the top ten characters from the site to provide you with better insight, combined with our original comments and opinions, which will add flavor to the whole report.
Of course, since this is indeed an important list, we have decided to report on it, so we are going to bring you the results by listing the top 10 characters on this list, from 10th to first place. We hope you’ll enjoy it!
10. Charles Francis Xavier / Professor X
You might, perhaps, think that Professor X deserves to be higher on this list, but when you see the names below, you’ll understand why we fans ranked him like this. He is undoubtedly powerful and deserves a place on this epic list, but when compared to most names (okay, not all of them, to be honest), he deserves to be in the lower half. Still, just being on this list means that he is enormously powerful.
9. Nate Grey / X-Man
Nate Grey is, as you will probably know from the comics, a very strange character with an interesting storyline. He has grown worthy of the name X-Man, and has proven that he is enormously powerful. In the X-Men: Disassembled and Age of X-Man storylines, which are relatively recent, he managed to create a whole alternative reality for mutants – as a form of utopia – and had the series not been rebooted once again, the mutants would still be there. This is enough to merit a spot on this list.
8. Robert Drake / Iceman
This is one character we’d rank below Professor X, but the difference is really not that big. Namely, Iceman is – indeed – an Omega-level mutant, and with his ability to freeze things on a molecular level, you can imagine how big of a threat he is overall. It is lucky that he is one of the good guys because, with this level of power, not many Marvel characters would be able to stand against him.
7. Kevin MacTaggert / Proteus
Oh, this is a very interesting one. Not just because of his powers but also because he has a very, very interesting storyline. Namely, Proteus is an Omega-level mutant who is composed solely of energy and has reality-warping powers; you can imagine how powerful he can get. He is also a mass murderer, and while the House of X storyline did redeem him a bit, he is still a very complex and controversial character.
6. David Haller / Legion
Legion might not look it, but due to his fractured mind, he is extremely volatile and dangerous. He constantly creates spontaneous mutations and new personas to control them, which is why he is as dangerous as he is powerful; such instability is almost impossible to control, which is why Legion is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous Mutants of all time.
5. Ororo Munroe / Storm
A major character from the X-Men franchise, Storm has the ability to control nature and some of the elements, which is why she definitely deserves to be in the upper part of this list. And while the level of her powers has varied over the decades, at her best and most powerful, Storm is undoubtedly a major threat and one of the strongest Mutants of all time, which is why she is here.
4. Hope Summers
A character born after M-Day, Hope Summers might not be the best-known Marvel Mutant, but she definitely is one of the most powerful ones, without a doubt. She can copy the abilities of the Mutants near her, she can combine them, and she can make them more powerful, and that in itself is enough to put her so high up on this list. She truly is dangerous!
3. Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto
If you were afraid that you’d be missing out on Magneto, you were wrong. There could be no list of the most powerful Mutants without him, who – while having a very specialized ability – has proven himself capable of extraordinary feats with which he definitely earned the status of one of the most powerful mutants of all time. In light of that fact, we can only agree with this listing.
2. En Sabah Nur / Apocalypse
The first Mutant, according to the legend, Apocalypse, basically paved the way for all the Mutants and is, therefore, very important. At the same time, the fact that he managed to appear in different periods of history and, in each of them, be a dangerous villain demonstrates not just how powerful he was but that he also deserves to be ranked in second place on this epic list. We definitely agree with this one!
1. Jean Grey / (Dark) Phoenix
For some a bit boring, for others, one of the best X-Men characters, Jean Grey is undoubtedly the character with the biggest potential. Her (Dark) Phoenix form is extremely powerful, and there is no doubt that she is able to surpass all the other characters on this list in terms of powers and abilities, which is why – rightfully – she gets the first place.
