Here’s a fun one: Square Enix has created a line of metallic replicas of SEGA’s classic game consoles. It’s called the SEGA Hardware Series of Bright Arts Gallery Diecast Figures. These are highly detailed replicas of the SEGA Mega Drive, Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast. Each one costs $43.99 and is set to release July 16 of next year. You can preorder them all at various retailers (see them at Amazon).
SEGA Hardware Series Bright Arts Gallery Diecast Consoles
Genesis – SEGA Hardware Series: Bright Arts Gallery Diecast Figure
Dreamcast – SEGA Hardware Series: Bright Arts Gallery Diecast Figure
Saturn – SEGA Hardware Series: Bright Arts Gallery Diecast Figure
Saturn (White) – SEGA Hardware Series: Bright Arts Gallery Diecast Figure
Mega Drive – SEGA Hardware Series: Bright Arts Gallery Diecast Figure
Each diecast replica is hand-painted to depict the console itself, plus the controller. All of the textures found on the original systems are present, and the colors are just right, including the buttons. Each replica has a satisfying heft to it, at least according to the promotional copy.
They don’t actually play games, but they look just right, complete with hand-painted finishes. These obviously aren’t for everyone, but if you appreciate this kind of collectible, they’re pretty awesome. Particularly if you harbor nostalgia for any of these systems, or if someone on your gift list does, they make really cool collectibles.
