In a major announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige excited fans by revealing that Robert Downey Jr. will return as Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo with a script by Stephen McFeely, the film is set for a global release on May 1, 2026. Although the start date wasn’t initially shared, Collider reports that production will kick off this spring.

The Fantastic Four will also feature prominently in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ after their debut in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, set to premiere on July 25, 2025.

The team includes Pedro Pascal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Mr. Fantastic and The Thing, alongside Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn as the Storm siblings. Ralph Ineson will portray Galactus, the villain in ‘First Steps’.

Collider’s Steve Weintraub, at New York Comic Con, spoke with Joe Russo who confirmed the spring filming start. Russo hinted at the large scale of the film, which is highly anticipated by Marvel fans. Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return as Doctor Strange, adding a magical element to the storyline.

Additionally, Kevin Feige hinted at the involvement of the Thunderbolts in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Specific details about which characters will appear are still undisclosed. Their participation comes after the ‘Thunderbolts’ movie, another Marvel Studios film due to hit theaters in 2025, preceding ‘Captain America: Brave New World’.

With this thrilling lineup and the return of iconic characters, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is poised to be a significant addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
