PlayStation 5 plates aren't compatible with the upcoming PS5 Pro, Sony tells IGN, confirming reports that began circulating online on Wednesday.

"PS5 console covers are not compatible with PS5 Pro. However, players will be able to swap out different console covers for PS5 Pro when they become available in the future," a PlayStation representative said.

Sony's statement follows a post that appeared on Reddit titled, "Playstation 5 Pro does not work with slim plates." It was accompanied by photos and an explanation of why they aren't working.

"I had some Cobalt blue plates so I decided to try them out on the Pro and I can confirm the bottom plates match the slim however the top plates do not match because while they're physically the same size. The teeth that connect to the system are and slightly different places. So you can't connect the top part. I'm only telling you all this so y'all know and don't bother ordering plates for the slim to use on the Pro," the post reads.

While the Reddit post specifically cites plates compatible with the slimmer version of the PS5 released in 2023, PlayStation's statement says "PS5 console covers." A variety of covers are available online that are designed to allow users to customize their console's colors to their liking, some of which are sold by PlayStation itself. It sounds like Sony will be selling updated versions for the PS5 Pro in the future, but in the meantime, you might want to save yourself some money.
