Deadpool & Wolverine proved to be a huge success. The movie surpassed the $1 billion milestone and is now the second highest-grossing movie of the year, only surpassed by Inside Out 2. Fans adored the film, and that’s what matters most for the franchise’s future, even if the critics weren’t all that impressed.

Regarding the film itself, we are aware that it had a large number of Easter Eggs and cameos because Marvel had access to a wide range of characters and projects, many of which were included in the finished product. However, several Easter Eggs were left out of the final selection.

In a recent podcast appearance, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, as well as director Shawn Levy, revealed more information about the movie, especially the Easter Eggs. In it, Levy specifically talked about the several Fox cameos that were planned or even included at one point, some of which might have scaped the fans who were looking only for the Marvel cameos.

Crafting a movie of such caliber, with so many references, is not easy. One has to find the right measure, as well as a proper way to integrate all the planned ideas into the film without them looking like something out of the ordinary.

While, for the most part, Deadpool & Wolverine did everything right in this department, there was some confusion there.

Namely, if you’ve observed the wasteland of the Void, you could’ve noticed a series of Easter Eggs related to Marvel and 20th Century Fox films. After Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the company got the rights to numerous projects, including many non-Marvel ones, which is what the people behind Deadpool & Wolverine wanted to honor.

We saw the crashed helicarrier from The Avengers and Peter Quill’s Milano spaceship from Guardians of the Galaxy, but there was also a very strange colonial ship that could be seen in the background of one scene.

Many fans assumed it was the ship from Fox’s film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and here is what Shawn Levy originally said when asked about that specific ship:

I think that the answer is yes. (Ryan Reynolds added: “Also, the Titanic was one option, as well, and then it changed a few times.”) That’s right. We were going to have the Titanic in it, There are some Fox-centric Easter eggs. In fact, I think Nakatomi Tower [from Die Hard] is in there, as well as the CN Tower, weirdly. So, Canada wins!

The movie was released in 2003 and was directed and co-written by legendary filmmaker Peter Weir. It starred Russel Crowe and it was a proper hit for Fox at the time, with many considering it to be one of Weir’s and Crowe’s best films.

While Levy said that he thought it was that same ship, as the article reveals, he later retracted his statement after checking everything with the VFX department, saying that it “was a generic ship from their library” and not the one seen in the movie: “Then we changed its color and made custom sails. So it’s a pure DP&W ship.”

As you can see, the movie is still a proper treasure chest and there is still a lot more to discover, so keep following us for more updates.
