In a candid chat with Chris Van Vliet, Stephen Amell shared his reactions to a joke made in the HBO series ‘Peacemaker’ that targeted his character, Green Arrow. Amell, known for his role in the series ‘Arrow’, didn’t mince words about his feelings towards the creators involved, specifically John Cena and James Gunn. He stated, ‘That was a little unnecessary. I didn’t appreciate that at all.’

‘Peacemaker’ took a humorous jab at Green Arrow, with Cena’s character commenting, ‘That dude goes to brony conventions dressed as the back half of Twilight sparkling with a four-inch wide butthole drilled into the costume.’ Amell expressed that although he’s not personally upset, the remark felt excessive.

Reflecting on the broader treatment of the Arrowverse, compared to major DC films and series, Amell voiced his frustration. ‘Our show was treated like shit. People remember the Arrowverse when they think of recent DC productions, not the Snyder Cut. We faced years of disrespect, and this just felt over the top. I remember just thinking, f those guys, seriously.’

Despite the rough patch, Amell praised Cena’s character, describing him as ‘a nicer, more genuine person’ and clarifying that his displeasure was more about Gunn’s decision to include the joke. This controversy comes just as Amell’s new show ‘Heels’ begins its Netflix run on September 15.

In addition, Van Vliet proposed a wrestling match between Amell and Cena as part of Cena’s retirement tour. Amell, who has experience in professional wrestling, humorously remarked, ‘Sure. Why not? I’m scared of that guy though, he’s huge. He’s very, very, very, very kind.’

Amell’s openness in the interview reflects his ongoing commitment to his work and his willingness to stand up for it. He mentioned the challenges of playing a superhero without superpowers, emphasizing the hard work that goes into a 23-episode season. ‘It’s really hard, and I’m not looking for a prize but maybe don’t shit on our show,’ he added with a laugh.

The conversation sheds light on the complexities of the entertainment industry, where even successful actors like Amell face challenges in ensuring their work is respected. As ‘Heels’ kicks off, Amell continues to engage with his fans and stand firm in his professional endeavors, making it clear that while he takes his work seriously, he’s also able to handle criticism with a mix of sincerity and humor.
