Even though Bob Iger recently said that the MCU will make fewer shows, there are still many new series coming that started development before the strikes.
One of these shows is a live-action version of ‘Wonder Man,’ based on the comic book character. This project had some delays and there were rumors that it might be canceled, but we recently got a big update: it is definitely still happening.
Recently, Marvel Studios released a teaser trailer showcasing upcoming shows set to premiere in 2024 and 2025. ‘Wonder Man’ is included in the lineup and will be released in December 2025. You can watch the teaser below:
The show will focus on Simon Williams, an actor and stuntman who gets superpowers and becomes a superhero called Wonder Man. It will be a funny take on Hollywood.
In the comics, Simon is the son of a wealthy businessman whose company struggles against Stark Industries. To help his family, he steals money, gets caught, and ends up in prison.
While in prison, the villain Baron Zemo offers him superpowers in exchange for spying on the Avengers. Simon agrees and gains superhuman abilities. Wonder Man is connected to characters like Baron Zemo, Scarlet Witch, and Vision, which might link the show to upcoming projects like ‘Vision Quest’ and a rumored solo movie for Scarlet Witch.
The show was created by Destin Cretton and Andrew Guest, who is the showrunner. It will be released under the Marvel Spotlight banner, so you won’t need to watch earlier MCU shows to understand it, and it will be aimed at a more adult audience. The series will also feature Eric Williams, also known as Grim Reaper, who is Wonder Man’s brother and one of his main enemies.
The show has been in development for several years, and the main cast has been announced. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play Simon Williams/Wonder Man, Ben Kingsley will return as Trevor Slattery, and Demetrius Grosse will portray Eric Williams, Simon’s brother and a villain. Ed Harris will play Simon’s agent, Neal Saroyan, with Lauren Glazier and Josh Gad in undisclosed roles.
