Wesley Snipes, known for his role as Blade, is once again in the spotlight with the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. This has stirred a mix of excitement and concern among us fans. Snipes’ Blade is iconic in Marvel history, especially after the 1998 ‘Blade’ movie helped Marvel regain its status in Hollywood.

Despite financial struggles, the movie was a hit and proved that lesser-known characters can lead successful films. Many of us, including Ryan Reynolds, have expressed a desire on social media for Snipes to reprise his role in the MCU, hopefully with a memorable farewell film similar to ‘Logan’.

However, with the renewed attention, some dark aspects of Snipes’ past are resurfacing. His alleged history of abusive behavior is causing some of us to question his inclusion in future projects. These concerns aren’t new but are gaining more focus now.

One notable instance involves Jennifer Lopez, who worked with Snipes on the 1995 film ‘Money Train’. At that time, Snipes was a major star. Lopez was just starting out and faced pressure from Snipes to perform in an explicit scene that wasn’t originally in the script.

She shared in a SAG-AFTRA Foundation interview that Snipes threatened her role could be cut if the scene wasn’t intense enough, which would harm her budding career. She felt this explicit scene was unnecessary and added nothing to the movie. Despite her discomfort, she felt compelled to go along with it to avoid being labeled difficult.

Lopez described the experience as a violation, recalling how exposed and pressured she felt. She vowed never to work with Snipes again and remarked that his career downturn might be karma for his actions.

Halle Berry’s experiences also paint a troubling picture. Though she has not explicitly named her abuser, Berry described a highly abusive relationship that left her with severe physical injuries, including losing most of the hearing in one ear. This occurred after her work with Snipes in ‘Jungle Fever’.

While Berry never confirmed Snipes was the abuser, her ex-husband, David Justice, suggested it was Snipes, not him. This history leads us to question whether Snipes’ presence in the MCU is appropriate, given these serious allegations.

While Snipes’ contributions to Marvel are undeniably important, these allegations suggest a darker side that might affect his future in the franchise. As fans, we hope for accountability and that our beloved characters are portrayed by individuals who embody the values of the heroes they play on screen.
