It seems Disney and Lucasfilm can’t leave well enough alone. Despite the lackluster reception of the last films in the Star Wars saga, a new trilogy is reportedly on the drawing board.

This information comes from a recent revelation by Deadline, indicating that Lucasfilm’s president Kathleen Kennedy has greenlit what will be episodes 10 through 12, adding yet another chapter to the decades-old narrative.

Kathleen Kennedy had previously stated that ‘The Rise of the Skywalker’ would be the definitive end to the Skywalker saga. Yet, nearly five years later, we find ourselves looking at the potential for more.

According to Deadline, Simon Kinberg, noted for his involvement in the X-Men series and Star Wars Rebels, is set to write and produce these new installments.

The decision to extend the Skywalker saga seems contradictory, especially since the characters beloved from the original storyline are no longer alive within the story’s universe.

Despite earlier promises to explore new narratives, Lucasfilm’s return to the Skywalker saga could potentially alienate longtime fans.

It raises the question of how the studio plans to continue this storyline without its cornerstone characters and why they would risk further creative fatigue.

The involvement of Simon Kinberg suggests that Lucasfilm isn’t straying far from their tried and tested formula, which could spell disaster for the franchise’s reputation following the disappointing sequels.

Additionally, the report by Deadline highlights that this new trilogy is different from another project led by Daisy Ridley as Rey, suggesting a disconnect in the overarching strategy for the Star Wars universe.

As these movies continue to stream on Disney+, only time will tell if this new attempt will revive interest or further dilute the cherished saga.

It appears that the Skywalker story will stretch on, much to the dismay of those who believed it had already reached its conclusion.
