Liam Payne detectives ‘charge three people’ after raiding homes in Argentina

Almost a month on from the One Direction star’s tragic death, investigators are said to have detained three people of interest – and they have now been charged for it

Police have reportedly charged three people in connection to Liam Payne’s death. Almost a month on from the One Direction star’s tragic death, investigators are said to have detained three people of interest – and they have now been charged.

The pop star was staying at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina when he fell to his death from a third floor balcony. According to ABC World News, among the detainees are two people who worked at the hotel. David Muir told the news outlet: “Police detained two hotel workers accused of supplying the drugs and raided the home of a friend, also detained.”

The three people have now been charged with abandonment of a person followed by death, supply and facilitation of narcotics.

A statement by the office of prosecutor Andres Esteban Madrea said that one of those charged “accompanied the artist on a daily basis,” and added: “Liam Payne was not fully conscious or was experiencing a state of noticeable decrease or loss of consciousness at the time of the fall”.

TMZ reported that law enforcement sources told the news outlet that raids were conducted on Tuesday [5 November]. TMZ also reported that officers searched the lockers of the hotel workers and watched security footage from the hotel.

A source who claimed to be a close friend of Liam’s alleged to Daily Mail: “There were two guys at the hotel that were giving Liam drugs. They sent taxis out to collect packages for him.”

Following a post-mortem examination of the One Direction singer’s body, it was determined that his cause of death was due to head injuries sustained from the balcony fall.

Payne’s body was recently returned to the UK on the “most tracked plane in the world,” which landed in Heathrow. A service is expected to take place and fans of the singer have put out a warning ahead of the event.

Many have taken to X/Twitter to try and deter anyone planning to make their way to his funeral on the day. One person tweeted: “Friendly reminder, don’t go to Liam Payne’s funeral. Let the family and friends mourn in peace.”
