When The Boys premiered on Amazon in 2019, it instantly captivated audiences with a surprising twist at the end of its first episode. Over the seasons, the show has become known for its intense action, shocking deaths, and explicit scenes. As the series progressed, it became clear that shock value was a major element, which aligns with the media landscape influenced by Cancel Culture.

Erin Moriarty, part of The Boys cast, has become accustomed to the extreme content of the show. During the filming of the notorious ‘Herogasm’ episode in Season 3, an amusing mix-up occurred due to the similar packaging of hand sanitizer and lubricant, which were both used on set for safety and scene requirements during COVID. This led to several funny incidents where crew members mistakenly used lubricant instead of sanitizer.

By her fifth day filming amidst overt nudity and explicit props, Moriarty felt desensitized. She humorously recounted a moment where she accidentally pumped lubricant instead of sanitizer, highlighting just how normal the bizarre had become for her on set.

The series mirrors the chaotic state of the world today, boldly commenting on cultural and political issues. It uses its narrative to critique the media’s sensitivities and the misuse of power, themes embodied by characters like Homelander. Antony Starr’s portrayal of Homelander in ‘Gen V’ exemplifies the show’s critical look at the extremes of current socio-political climates.

The Boys stands out not just for its storytelling but also for its unapologetic depiction of the world, making it a unique reflection of contemporary society.
