The brother of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur has revealed a fresh investigation into his brother’s murder has been launched and he casts doubt over Sean ‘Diddy’Combs’ denial of his involvement.
Mopreme Shakur made the claim during an interview with presenter Piers Morgan on his show Piers Morgan Uncensored. This comes after the disgraced rapper was recently arrested in New York for unconnected allegations of racketeering and sex trafficking.
It has been 27 years since Tupac was gunned down in 1996 while driving around Las Vegas along with former Death Row Records boss, Suge Knight. Mopreme told Piers: “The family is pursuing an investigation into my brother’s death, wherever the investigation leads, that’s where it leads. It’s not about that guy specifically, it’s about justice for my brother.”
A question mark over Sean Combs‘ involvement was immediately raised among friends and family at the time. And speculation has now hit fever pitch following the incarceration of a known associate of Diddy, Keefe D last year. It has been reported that Keefe D was allegedly paid by Sean to kill Tupac – but these allegations have not been substantiated, and are strongly denied by Combs.

Mopreme continued: “It’s been an on-going mystery for 27 years. With the arrest in Vegas (of Keefe D), there was a break, an opportunity to get closer to the truth. This is on-going business for us. My family pursued an investigation, early on, soon after his murder, of which nothing came of it. So we were left with no answers for 27 years. Now we might have the opportunity to get some answers.”
In 2008, Mopreme said that Sean contacted him to deny the allegations surrounding his involvement. Mopreme added: “He was in LA at the time, he was on the radio. He asked a local DJ that we all know, Big Boy, to reach out to me. Because he wanted to speak to me about something. This is a few years after Pac’s murder. We all were familiar with all the rumours and stuff.”
He went on to say: “I said, ‘Yeah, let me talk to him’. So he called me and I had my guys with me, thug life guys, and we heard what he had to say. He’s basically said he ain’t had nothing to do with my brother’s murder. And I told him, ‘The truth is still yet to come out, so we gonna see’. Here we are 27 – 28 years later and there looks like there is some doubt in that statement. So this, along with all the other suspensions that people had, it was time for it to be investigated.”
Probing him further over whether he believed Sean was honest in his denial, Mopreme stated: “My opinion is that, I don’t believe it was 100% honest statement – so again, we have to find out what is true and what’s false, what’s real and what’s fake.” At the time of Tupac’s death, rappers from the east coast and west coast were at loggerheads, which is why Mopreme believes that his brother was caught in the middle of a battle.
Speaking about Sean’s current plight after being charged with multiple charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, he said: “We have nothing to do with his current situation, with the sex trafficking, I have nothing to do with none of that. Our issues were prior to that. The fact this Keefe D dude got arrested, he’s a known associate of Combs, that’s just a fact. So Stevie Wonder can see that!”
