At a recent panel for ‘Creature Commandos’ at New York Comic Con, James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, thrilled the audience with updates on upcoming DC Universe (DCU) projects. The event also premiered a new trailer for ‘Creature Commandos’, which you can find online.

Gunn expressed his enthusiasm for David Coresnwet, who stars in the upcoming Superman movie, stating that Coresnwet will ‘blow people away’ with his performance.

He praised Coresnwet as ‘the best physical action star I’ve probably ever worked with.’ Rachel Brosnahan, another star in the Superman project, was also commended by Gunn, predicting that audiences will adore her portrayal.

Although a trailer for Superman hasn’t been released yet, Gunn hinted that it might debut at CCXP in Brazil this December, an event he has confirmed his attendance for and has shown great admiration.

Turning to ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘, Gunn revealed that filming begins in England in January. He praised Milly Alcock’s screen test, which is based on Tom King’s ‘Woman of Tomorrow’. Ana Nogueria, who pitched the story, has already created a first draft that Gunn describes as ‘one of the best pitches I’ve ever heard’ and noted that it has improved with each revision.

In discussions about ‘Lanterns‘, Gunn shared his near-miss casting of Aaron Pierre as Adam Warlock in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’. He expressed excitement about the dynamic between Kyle Chandler and Pierre, who will portray Hal Jordan and John Stewart respectively, believing their chemistry will captivate the audience immediately.

Gunn also touched on the continuity of the DCU, explaining that while each DC Studios project will stand alone with unique aesthetics, they are still part of the same universe. He mentioned that historical elements from other media might be recognized and incorporated into the DCU canon.

He concluded by addressing the complex nature of rebooting the DCU. Gunn noted that had he not chosen to continue some of the stories or reuse actors from previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU) projects, the DCU might have had a fresher start. However, he remains optimistic about the current direction and integration of these characters within the cinematic universe.

Gunn’s updates highlight a dynamic future for the DCU, showcasing a range of highly anticipated projects that promise to bring fresh and engaging interpretations to beloved characters.
