Willow Smith is reaching unprecedented heights in her profession as a musician and transitioning from a style icon on the runway to a personal style icon.
In keeping with some of their other recent collaborations with artists like A$AP Rocky and NIGO, the 23-year-old star just debuted a brand-new collection created in partnership with Moncler Genius.
While Willow’s mother Jada Pinkett Smith accompanied her to Shanghai for the launch of the new collection, A$AP was supported by his girlfriend Rihanna at the Moncler runway show.
With its enormous puffer designs and pieces, roomy clothing, and the iconic Moncler “M” inverted upside down to a Willow “W,” along with numerous pockets and innovative zipper detailing, Willow’s new line is all about balancing comfort with elegance.
The collection included a striking sleeveless puffer jacket with a hood that Jada, 53, wore with her daughter. It was transformed into a floor-length dress with multiple functional pockets and a thick lining.
She boastfully exclaimed on social media, “Here in Shanghai with @willowsmith to celebrate the collection she designed for @moncler’s The City of Genius installation.” “Wearing one of my favorite pieces from her collection was an honor. Her creations truly showcased her creativity. Her assortment is simply incredible.”
Willow discussed the new collection and her goals for the event with Highsnobiety. Willow arrived for the show wearing a chic black leather jacket, matching slacks, and a white button-down shirt with leather accents.
“I truly believe that whatever art you choose to create, whether it’s music, fashion, filmmaking, etc., should come from a deep place of inspiration and honesty within the artist,” she states. In fact, one of her line’s pieces has the lyrics to her song “Alone.”
That’s what distinguishes it! I genuinely don’t see the point if this isn’t occurring and if it’s not true to the creator.”
Willow also mentioned that she drew inspiration for the collaboration from nature, which she also mentioned had a significant influence on the creation of her critically acclaimed Empathogen studio album.
“I’m incredibly passionate about the outdoors and exploring this magnificent earth, up close and personal when I can, so it was important that these pieces reflected that for Moncler and myself,” she said.
“Each piece in this collection is made to be sturdy while maintaining a stylish and elegant aesthetic. I can see these outfits going from elegant dinner attire to camping at night with ease.”
She went on: “Utilitarianism and minimalism. Manhood with femininity. In both black and white. It truly thrills me to bring two opposing ideas together in an attractive way, so I wanted to explore that in this collection.”
The “Big Feelings” singer went on to say that she hoped to use the collaboration to use her goods to build a new “world”. “I spent a lot of time thinking about the message I wanted to convey with these pieces because I wanted to create a world, not just an aesthetic.”
“Moncler is such a legendary company. They enabled me to give it my all for them, which was something I truly wanted to do.”
