At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige thrilled attendees with the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel universe as Doctor Doom in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and scripted by Stephen McFeely, the movie is slated for a global release on May 1, 2026. While the start date for filming wasn’t shared at the Comic-Con, we’ve now learned from Collider that production is set to begin this spring.
Fans of the Fantastic Four can look forward to seeing the team in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Following their introduction in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ (releasing July 25, 2025), all four members will join the ensemble cast.
Pedro Pascal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will star as Mr. Fantastic and The Thing, respectively, with Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn as the Storm siblings. Ralph Ineson is also set to appear as Galactus, the antagonist in ‘First Steps’.
In an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at New York Comic Con, Joe Russo confirmed that filming for ‘Doomsday’ is indeed scheduled for the upcoming spring.
He also hinted at the scale and excitement surrounding the project, much anticipated by Marvel enthusiasts. Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange, adding another layer of magic and mystery to the mix.
Furthermore, Kevin Feige has teased that the Thunderbolts* will play a part in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, although details on which characters will appear are still under wraps. Their involvement will follow their own appearance in ‘Thunderbolts*’, a Marvel Studios film set to premiere in 2025 before ‘Captain America: Brave New World’.
With such an exciting lineup and the anticipated return of iconic characters, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ promises to be a pivotal chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As production begins next spring, we’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates and insider info.
