The NFL has just revealed advanced statistics showing that Patrick Mahomes is not struggling as much as you might think

The Kansas City Chiefs are 6-0, they look to be on track for an unprecedented third-straight Super Bowl, and they’re beating good teams week after week. But, there’s a lot of handwringing going on about the play of Patrick Mahomes and the the offense.

The raw stats for Mahomes don’t look good, as he has just six touchdowns and a whopping eight interceptions. But, when you look into the advanced stats, it tells a more complete story of what is going on with the Kansas City offense.

The Chiefs improved to 6-0 with a dominant 28-18 road win against the 49ers coming off of their Week 6 bye on Sunday. But, frankly, the passing offense was not good. Mahomes was just 16/27 for 154 yards with two interceptions. Neither interception was entirely his fault, as one was tipped at the line and the other involved an open receiver falling down. But, eight interceptions through six games is not good no matter how you slice it. And, 27 attempts for 154 yards is not what we’ve become accustomed to out of Mahomes.

But, some advanced stats paint a much rosier picture for the Chiefs offense. Take a look.

It’s important to not overvalue stats like that. But, clearly they show that Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense is performing better than you may think. When factoring in that they’re without two starting wide receivers and their starting running back, that adds needed context.

That being said, they’ll to be much more electric through the air starting this weekend against the Raiders.
