Agatha All Along recently wrapped up its nine-episode run with two finale episodes. While many secrets and mysteries were revealed, not everything was explained clearly.

For instance, we still don’t know why Agatha kept targeting other witches after her son died, who Nicholas’s father is, or the specifics of her deal with Rio. These might be things Jac Schaeffer will explain later, or they could be saved for future MCU projects.

One big question centers around the Darkhold. Known as the Book of Sins, the Book of Spells, or the Book of the Damned, the Darkhold is filled with dark magic taken from ancient carvings made by Chthon. Only two copies of the Darkhold have shown up recently.

The book has appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and in the MCU, but its place in canon is tricky. Wanda recently destroyed every remaining copy of the Darkhold when she brought down the castle on herself.

Before Wanda held the Darkhold, Agatha owned the cursed book, leaving fans wondering if Agatha All Along would reveal how she got it.

In the early episodes, the show hinted that Agatha might have traded her own son for the Darkhold. Jennifer Kale even brought up this rumor, and in episode 3, there’s a scene where Agatha hears a baby crying. But when she looks into the crib, instead of a baby, she finds the Darkhold.

Episode 9 clarified that Agatha didn’t trade her son Nicholas for the Darkhold; instead, she made a deal with Death to save him, as he was supposed to die at birth.

With what we know so far, there are two possible explanations. One is that Agatha already had access to the Darkhold when Nicholas was born, possibly after making a deal with Mephisto. Another is that she got the Darkhold after her son’s death, seeking its power to bring him back—much like the Scarlet Witch, who also studied the book in desperation.

Whatever Agatha’s original intention, the Darkhold seemed to only darken her character over time. She was already a powerful threat without it, but her thirst for power grew with the book in her hands.
