The Teen in Agatha All Along Explained: Wiccan’s Origin

If you’ve been watching Agatha All Along, you may have noticed a teenage boy appearing frequently. This boy is Billy Kaplan, the son of Wanda Maximoff. But Billy was believed to be gone—so how did he reappear, and what are his powers? Let’s break down these questions one by one and explain wiccan origin.

Billy Kaplan is indeed one of Wanda’s twin sons, Billy and Tommy, both of whom inherited powers similar to their mother. However, they were created through Wanda’s grief and magical manifestation, which is why, when Wanda lifted the Hex from Westview, both her sons, along with Vision, disappeared. Wanda accepted that Vision was gone, but the Darkhold wouldn’t let her accept that Billy and Tommy were gone too. This led to the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. By the end of the movie, Wanda seemed to come to terms with their loss, but in reality, they weren’t truly gone.

Let’s dive into the story of Billy Kaplan, aka Wiccan. The article will explore his origin, his twin brother, and his powers.

Who is Billy Kaplan?

In the series, Billy is portrayed as a familiar—an entity from European folklore that serves witches by providing spiritual insight. Billy is depicted as a familiar with a dark sense of humor, serving as Agatha’s assistant. He’s been referred to as a teen so far, but there’s a magical spell placed on him, preventing him from revealing his true name or origin whenever he tries.

This character raises a lot of questions, especially considering his mysterious MCU origin. After all, Wanda seemingly sacrificed everything, including America Chavez, to bring her sons back, and yet here one of them is—alive, and working for Agatha, Wanda’s enemy.

Let’s look at Billy’s comic book origin to get a clearer picture.

Billy/Wiccan Origin

After marrying Vision, Wanda used her reality-altering powers to create twin boys: William and Thomas. These children were formed from two lost souls, whom she named Billy and Tommy. However, their existence wasn’t meant to last. Master Pandemonium, a villain in the comics, came to claim the boys’ souls, as they had been transfigured by Wanda’s magic. As a result, the souls vanished.

William’s soul was later reincarnated into the family of Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan, where he was named Billy Kaplan. From a young age, Billy felt different from other kids, partly because of his sexuality, which led to him being bullied at school. To escape, Billy would sit outside the Avengers Mansion, where one day, he had an encounter with his favorite Avenger: Scarlet Witch, who, unbeknownst to either of them, was his biological mother. Wanda noticed Billy’s bruises and asked what had happened. Billy explained that he was bullied for being different. Wanda gave him some advice: that he needed to stand up to the bullies, and reminded him that everyone has a gift, even if they don’t realize it yet. Then, she healed his bruise with her magic.

Billy heeded her advice and tried to avoid his bullies. But when the bully started picking on another kid, Billy decided to intervene. The bully knocked him down, but as he was about to strike, Billy instinctively used his powers for the first time, stopping the bully’s hand mid-air. Billy’s eyes glowed as he realized his powers had manifested, but in the process, he almost killed the bully. Frightened, Billy ran away, unsure of what had happened.

Becoming Wiccan

At this time, Wanda had disappeared, the Avengers had disbanded, and their mansion was destroyed. Billy had no one to turn to for help. However, he met Teddy Altman at school, and the two bonded over their shared interests. Teddy, it turned out, was a shapeshifter who could transform into a Hulk-like figure, known as Hulkling. Billy revealed his powers to Teddy, and soon after, the two were approached by a younger version of Kang the Conqueror, who was going by the name Iron Lad.

Iron Lad explained that Vision had created a fail-safe program. If the Avengers were ever destroyed or disbanded, this program would activate and assemble a new team of super-powered individuals. Iron Lad didn’t want to follow his future self’s path and become Kang the Conqueror, so he set out to form the Young Avengers. Billy, who initially adopted the name Asgardian, joined the team alongside Teddy.

However, their heroics didn’t go unnoticed. Captain America, Iron Man, and Jessica Jones confronted the Young Avengers, urging them to stop risking their lives. That’s when Kang arrived, demanding Iron Lad return with him. Iron Lad refused, and the Young Avengers banded together to fight Kang. During the battle, Billy discovered more of his powers, including the ability to nullify force fields. Ultimately, the team defeated Kang, but Iron Lad realized he had to leave to preserve the timeline.

After Iron Lad’s departure, the Young Avengers were disbanded. But Kate Bishop, another member of the team, gathered them together again. It was during this time that Billy adopted the name Wiccan, and the Young Avengers continued their mission, despite the odds.

Reuniting with Tommy

As Wiccan, Billy’s story didn’t end there. While in a high-security facility, Billy and his team met Tommy Shepherd, a fellow super-powered teenager who bore a striking resemblance to Billy. It was soon revealed that Tommy was, in fact, Billy’s twin brother, reincarnated as well. Tommy, now going by the name Speed, joined the Young Avengers, and together, the brothers set out to uncover their past.

The brothers learned from Super-Skrull Kl’rt that they were the reincarnated sons of Scarlet Witch and Vision. Vision’s memory files confirmed this, and the two set out on a quest to find their mother. Their journey took them to several places, including Genosha and Mount Wundagore, but they found nothing. Eventually, they confronted Master Pandemonium, who admitted that he had been manipulated by Mephisto, and had come to terms with his role in Wanda’s breakdown.

Although they didn’t find their mother, Billy and Tommy realized that the past was filled with darkness and mistakes. Instead of dwelling on it, they decided to embrace the present, knowing that their mother was out there, somewhere.

What’s Next for Wiccan?

Billy Kaplan’s story is filled with twists and turns, and his journey is far from over. As Agatha All Along continues to unfold, we’re sure to see more of Wiccan’s character develop. One of the more exciting aspects is the potential reunion with his brother Tommy and the possible introduction of Hulkling, Billy’s romantic interest in the comics.

There are many questions to be answered, and I can’t wait to see how Billy’s story plays out in the MCU.
