Marvel Studios currently has numerous projects in the works, featuring both well-known and lesser-known comic book characters. This comes despite Disney CEO Bob Iger’s recent announcement to reduce the studio’s output to 2-3 films per year along with 2 live-action series.

Among the highly anticipated projects is ‘Nova,’ which has been in development for several years. Initially planned as a series, it was later shifted to a feature film but now seems to have reverted to its original series format.

Brad Winderbaum, head of animation at Marvel Studios, recently addressed speculation surrounding the development of the ‘Nova’ project. He confirmed that while the show is in development, a new system at Marvel means that not all projects in development will necessarily be released.

However, if recent rumors are to be believed, the show is progressing well. According to Productionlist, actors Xolo Maridueña and Tanner Gillman have reportedly been cast in the series.

Xolo Maridueña is best known for his role as Blue Beetle, which was one of the last projects from the DCEU. While the film offered a strong origin story, it didn’t perform as well at the box office as expected. Nevertheless, it has been confirmed that Maridueña’s Blue Beetle will cross over into the DCU in an animated series.

Tanner Gillman is recognized for his comedic roles on the sketch show ‘Studio C.’ He has also appeared in independent films like ‘Once I Was Engaged’ and ‘Once I Was a Beehive,’ where he played Thys, a wealthy suitor whose sudden proposal disrupts the protagonist’s plans. Additionally, he has been featured in ‘Not Cinderella’s Type’ and ‘Green Gables Fables.’

While there’s no official confirmation yet, it’s speculated that if Maridueña is indeed cast in the ‘Nova’ series, he may play Sam Alexander. Recent rumors have suggested that the MCU might focus on Sam Alexander’s version of the character.

Productionlist has also shared what is believed to be a synopsis for the project.

In the wake of Annihilation, Nova the Human Rocket stands on the front lines of cosmic adventure as the last of the Nova Corps and our only hope against threats from the furthest reaches of the Marvel Universe

Sabir Pirzada is reportedly set to write the series, with Kevin Feige listed as the producer. Glenn Close is expected to reprise her role as Nova Prime from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ along with John C. Reilly, who will return as Rhomann Dey, a member of the Nova Corps.
