Man United will consider offers for Antony this summer, as his Old Trafford career could come to an end… but they may struggle to recoup half of the £86m they spent on him after just 18 months

This summer, Manchester United will consider all offers for Antony, a Brazil winger whose time at Old Trafford is coming to an end.

Antony was bought from Ajax for £86 million 18 months ago, making him the second most expensive player in United’s history. The club may not be able to get even half of that money back.

United are ready to sell the 24-year-old, though, which shows how disappointed they are with his play.

One of Antony’s last eight games was in the FA Cup against Newport County. He has only played one of those eight games, and United lost to Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Teenager Omari Forson was picked ahead of him, and boss Erik ten Hag brought on three substitutes, one of whom was Amad Diallo, another young winger. It wasn’t until the last minute of injury time that Antony was brought on.

Antony has now played 20 times in the Premier League this season without scoring or setting up a goal.

Since new co-owners Ineos are looking into how much the United team costs and how well it works after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.3 billion investment, his numbers are not good.

Ten Hag signed Antony with his old team, Ajax, in the summer of 2022. The Dutch manager is still believed to have hope for the player and thinks he can still improve his career in England.

But Ten Hag said last month that Antony has been distracted by claims of domestic violence, which he strongly denies. These claims caused Brazil to drop him in September, and he had to spend some time back in South America to clear his name.

After United lost to Fulham, the manager was honest about why he chose to play Alejandro Garnacho, Forson, and Diallo instead of his expensive Brazilian flop.

Ten Hag said, “It had nothing to do with fitness.” “He’s fit, but there are a lot of other choices on the right.”

“Everyone has seen Antony’s shape, and he needs to step up.” I can see it in practice, but Omari Forson, Amad Diallo, and Garnacho also deserve to play.
