Henry Cavill appears to be drawn to passion projects, as Variety has recently announced that he will star in the upcoming ‘Voltron’ movie.
Voltron is a beloved media franchise that focuses on a giant robot created by merging five smaller robotic lions. The franchise began with the animated series ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe,’ which first premiered in 1984.
Rawson Marshall Thurber is set to direct the upcoming ‘Voltron’ movie, having co-written the script with Ellen Shanman. Thurber is known for his work on Netflix’s 2021 action film ‘Red Notice’ and the 2018 movie ‘Skyscraper,’ both starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
Although plot details are still under wraps, the production team includes Todd Lieberman from Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, Thurber, and David Hoberman from Hobie Films.
Henry Cavill will star alongside Daniel Quinn-Toye, a newcomer who has previously appeared in the TV series ‘Badults.’
This announcement marks a positive turn for Cavill’s career, especially since he has faced challenges after losing the role of Superman when James Gunn rebooted the DC universe into the newly branded “DCU.”
Cavill also stepped away from his role as Geralt in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher,’ and several of his recent projects have not met studio expectations. However, there are still exciting opportunities on the horizon for him.
He recently made a cameo as a Wolverine variant in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ with some industry insiders suggesting that Cavill may have a confirmed role in the MCU. Additionally, he is involved in the upcoming ‘Highlander’ reboot and the anticipated ‘Warhammer 40K’ production—though this project could face delays if a deal isn’t reached by the end of the year.
In any case, Cavill seems to be prioritizing passion projects that resonate with his geeky interests, which is a significant reason behind his loyal fanbase!
