From what we’ve gathered in recent months, Doctor Strange 3 is in development at Marvel Studios. Recent rumors indicate that Sam Raimi is set to return as director, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Wong expected to reprise their roles.
A recent report from Production Weekly hints at exciting developments for the upcoming sequel, including the addition of some notable names to the cast.
According to Production Weekly, earlier rumors that Doctor Strange will be crucial for the fate of the Multiverse are set to be confirmed. He has been sought by a multiversal organization called the Black Priests, which includes Clea (played by Charlize Theron) as a member.
The Black Priests’ headquarters is situated in the Nothing Space of Destroyed Universes, a realm that exists between the remnants of two deceased universes caused by an incursion.
Strange is summoned by the Black Priests, who operate across the multiverse, and it is revealed that the multiverse is on the brink of destruction, linked to a series of incursions.
The latest disruption was triggered by Doctor Strange himself, aligning with the sequel’s examination of his unintentional role as a potential threat to multiversal stability—a concept briefly mentioned in the previous film.
Additionally, Denzel Washington has been suggested for the role of Dormammu.
This brief from Production Weekly aligns with previous rumors. First, Theron’s Clea will have a larger role in the third installment, and Dormammu, Strange’s most notable foe in the MCU, will be returning.
This isn’t surprising since Clea, introduced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is actually Dormammu’s niece in the comics. Additionally, there’s that enigmatic role Bruce Campbell hinted at in his recent interview.
On the production side, Feige and D’Esposito are credited as producers, with Sam Raimi returning as director.
It appears that Strange and Doctor Doom will be crucial for the fate of the Multiverse, and this event may even pave the way for the establishment of the Illuminati on Earth-616.
